Eating out

Italy is famous for its food. You don’t have to travel far to get great food while you’re staying with us because we have several nice restaurants or osteria, trattoria, ristorante, pizzeria, etc. close to our house.

Il Grottino di Zio Totò – Monte Castello di Vibio – $$
In Monte Castello di Vibio (3,5 km) you can eat traditional Umbrian dishes prepared by chef Massimo in ‘The cave of uncle Totò’.  Local products, informal atmosphere, great wines. A tad more expansive than a regular pizzeria, but still very affordable.
Via Don Oscar Marri, 2, 06057 Monte Castello di Vibio PG. 075 878 0652

Da Nadia – Cecanibbi – $
This pizzeria doesn’t have a name, but the owners are Nadia and Mirko. It’s situated within walking distance  (2 km) of our house in the small village Cecanibbi. Delicious (thin) pizzas and local wines (vino della casa). Cheap and very good. One spoiler alert: NEVER order any of the starters.
Open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Make a left as soon as you leave the gate and follow the road for 20 minutes (walking) or 5 minutes (by car). Opposite the church you’ll find the pizzeria.

Enoteca Oberdan – Todi – $$$
Elsa is the owner and chef of Oberdan in Todi. High quality food, the menu is changing every week. The dishes are less traditional, but local and often organic products are used.  Elsa is also a ‘sommelier’ so try out one of the excellent Italian wines she offers. The small terrace on top of the ancient city walls offers marvellous views on our village and on the valley.  Please make a reservation (English spoken) .
Via Augusta Ciuffelli 37, Todi , PG. 075 894 5409

Osteria Novecento – Ilci – $$
This Osteria  has great Umbrian food for reasonal prices. The small village Ilci is only 6 km away and Novecento offers a non-italian, modern interior in an ancient building. The food is classic Italian in a modern presentation.

Osteria Il Borghetto – Deruta – $
Another Osteria is in Deruta: Il Borghetto. Owner Luigi is a young guy who has been cooking for years on cruiseschips all over the world. Now he’s back in Umbria with his lovely wife Maria, and making traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist. Deruta is the majolica-capital of the world and is 23 km away. Be prepared to eat a lot of delicious food.
Via Borgo Garibaldi, 102, 06053 Deruta PG. 075 972 4264

In Perugia (43 km) and Todi (8 km) there are numerous restaurants.
